So I've been doing a LOT of studying of history lately for a historical comic I'm going to write. (It's my personal NaNoWriMo, only with pictures. And 30 pages, not 175000 words.) Anyway, I've been learning a lot, and overall it's been rather enjoyable.
Then the world reminds me of how stupid it can be.
I was reading a webcomic blog when someone wrote:
"...a few good examples of bad ideas gone wild are: The atom bomb, the Flame Thrower, and the political party. Atom bomb's tech came from an original thought on how to harness the power for good means, the flame thrower, no ones quite sure, but we joke about it being the Lazy factor, "Yaknow..I'd like to set him on fire...but he's way over there...if I just had a way to throw the fire over there so I didn't have to get up.."...and the Political party..well you guys have those so you should know how bad those ideas are."
Wow.
I mean, WOW.
I honestly can't believe people can be that...that ignorant. The atom bomb a bad idea? Really? So what would've kept Russia and the US from going at it during the Cold War if there wasn't the threat of nuclear winter? What would've made them strive for the moon instead? What would've inspired them to work on making better technology than the other so you can type away at your computer?
The flame-thrower was a bad idea? Frankly, it was brilliant. A horrible, terrible device, but it was one of the incredible weapons the Germans came up with in the Great War that pretty much kicked the ass of the Allies until America finally found an excuse to join the war. (Wilson, despite claiming he was impartial, was a HUGE Brit supporter. He'd been sending them supplies for years. The Lusitania with its 124 Americans was also filled with American supplies for British troops, which is why the Germans attacked it in the first place.) Germany lost because the Americans had more men and a competent leader (which is more than the Brits had. They were using bayonets to the end of the war. BAYONETS. In a war where grenades were standard issue. At least the French had more sense--I really don't understand why Americans and French people hate each other so much, considering how much we relied on each other in the Great War. Maybe the second War had something to do with it.) The Germans were brilliant strategists, and lost fewer men on all fronts than the Allies lost on the Western Front alone. The flame-thrower was a reason why. The Germans actually valued the lives of their soldiers, and fought to keep them.
And 'The Political party'?! What does that even MEAN?! Is he talking about the bipartisan system we have going now? Do they not teach HISTORY? That system developed over a period of trial and error after the Consitution was ratified! We didn't even HAVE our current Democratic/Republican parties at first--they were Federalists and Anti-Federalists (which make me think of fans and anti-fans but I digress). The Anti-Federalists, who eventually became the Democratic party we know and love/loathe today, were there from when the Constitution began and were led by Thomas Jefferson, and they were the ones who demanded a Bill of Rights.
So, yeah, you can thank POLITCAL PARTIES for your RIGHT FOR FREE SPEECH to SPEW CRAP LIKE THIS all over the Internet.
Read history, asshole.

So, here's how it works: 1. Open your music library/ipod/itunes/MP3 Player. 2. Put it on shuffle. 3. Press play. 4. For every question, type the song that's playing. 5. When you go to a new question, press the next button. 6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool.
Oddly, today my playlist seems to have an aversion to most indie/rock music and goes orchestral/jpop instead... SONGS
Opening Credits: Dealing with the Roster - Junkie XL (...great, I'm in a Blade movie.)
Waking Up: Runaway - Del Shannon
First Day At School: Velveteen - Yoko Kanno (...considering this song starts with sirens, this does NOT BODE WELL.)
Falling In love: Kiss From A Rose - Seal (...lies.)
Fight Song: DDR Megamix 3 (Dude, this thing is 80 minutes long. WTH. Blade, as done by HKAT.)
Breaking Up: CHARM - Yoko Kanno (Yes, my love. Now go back to your own damn world, I'm done being your good luck charm.)
Prom: Santi-U - Yoko Kanno (I'm beginning to think the Yoko Kanno needs thinning out.)
Life's OK: Vengeance - Future World Music (...this must be some new definition of "OK" that I am unfamiliar with.)
Mental Breakdown: Planet Fall - Warhammer 40K (FFFF)
Driving: Avenger - Immediate Music (Road rage ftw.)
Flashback: CAT'S DELICACY - Gabriela Robin (... no comment.)
Getting Back Together: Shangri-La - Angela (clearly getting back together is just as dramatic as breaking up in the first place.)
Wedding: Innocent Green - Yoko Kanno. (That's it, wench. Off my playlist.)
Birth of Child: Orchard of Mines - Globus (...whut.)
Final Battle: Redeemer - Immediate Music (oh hey, this is fitting.)
Death Scene: Ao No Ether - Megumi Nakajima (... sort of fitting too, I guess.)
Funeral Song: The Road I'm On - 3 Doors Down (...XD)
End Credits: Romance - Yoko Kanno (DAMMIT WOMAN WHAT DID I JUST SAY.)
After Credits Twist: Break Stuff - Limp Bizkit (...yes. You can't keep a good zombie down.)
I begin to get the impression my life is very exciting, full of meaningless fight scenes, exploding schools and high drama involving guys from other dimensions; video crew sourced from Hong Kong, produced by Uwe Boll and animated in Japan. For I am clearly a space cowboy/japanese school girl/hip hop samurai/singer with mood hair/ALL OF THE ABOVE.
...I am down with this. Where do I sign up?

You'll have the best luck if you request for one of the following, but as usual, you can try your luck for anything I've done in the past. We can negotiate. ^_^
My current passions: Glee High School Musical Naruto Bleach Skip Beat Harry Potter Sailor Moon Chronicles of Narnia Spirited Away Gundam Seed CLAMP Detective Conan/Magic Kaitou Highlander Star Trek Reboot Star Trek DS9 Chronicles of Chrestomanci Darkangel Trilogy Pet Shop of Horrors
Edit: Requests closed. Let's see what I come up with.

Hiya, Adelaide! Ready for our first heatwave of the summer? Oh wait, I forgot. IT'S STILL SPRING. Well, it's not like 37 counts as hot any more, does it? We can manage a week of that, right? It'll be good practice for when the real heat gets here!
-_-
Methinks the Werewolf game is going to be verrrry sporadic over the next four months. Keep an eye on the weather; if it's more than 34 on a Monday, we won't be playing. :/ You'll roast in my non-airconditioned brick apartment. Not good.
---------
Got my hair cut today. Undead Gamer deals with depression by shopping like a fiend. Apparently I deal with it by throwing a stack of cash at the hairdresser and walking out looking like I dipped my hair in a bucket of sheep's blood.
Left it long, though. (Longish. Short by everyone else's standards.) I'll see how it goes.
EDIT: Oh yeah, by the way. Transformers 2 SUCKS.

What I've been up to: running around a lot. Trying to figure out how I'm going to get rehearsals in, if at all. Planning but not doing. Being cold.
I am so freaking cold. It helps that we actually turned the heat on, but it's still kinda frustrating. I'm feeling on-the-verge-of-ill, so I'm not sure if I should try to stave it off or if I should just let myself go and get it over with before the play starts picking up. Or maybe I can push it off until after the play... Isn't it funny how I think I can schedule illness?
Got a load of things pack up and sent with Dad. Now they're off west until the move up to Vancouver. Went and got a nice couch and loveseat. They're "sage", which isn't as bad as it sounds. Now I need to start packing for the second round.
Supposed to do eBay stuff today but got up late. Am not sure at all if I should be sleeping to let myself rest or if I'm just being a lazy ass. Thinking the latter. So I'll get it done tomorrow, if I don't get sidetracked by dreams again. Am wondering if the time of year is the reason why I'm wanting to eat like three hogs. I don't need to store fat for winter, body. I have plenty already, I think.
Off to get some hot chocolate and then possibly draw for a bit. Here's hoping for a productive tomorrow! (Although I doubt it.)

Dug this little tidbit up, and bringing this up from my comment on weber_dubois22 's post below . Bottom line: Hasbro's CEO announced that there will be new television series for My Little Pony, GI Joe, and Transformers to the investors, along with some Marvel properties. (Television support is likely Toy Company CEO-ese for, 'We struck a deal with a network.") They'll be announcing more tomorrow at an investor day, so we'll want to watch for that.
If they're announcing a television incarnation it to the investors, it's likely it will happen. What form it will take is another story, but it bumps the probability way up that this may happen.
As a fan, what I'll be doing is watching who the producer(s) are for these series, and who the writers are -- I'm not so interested in My Little Pony, LOL, but both Transformers and Marvel could be interesting. (Though it'll be interesting how being owned by Disney affects the Marvel S&P for new series ...) Who gets the job of producer for the series will tell us a lot about how good it'll be.

It’s torture. Pure torture. In at work today instead of working from home. I work at a freight company that makes business and residential deliveries, for those of you who didn’t know. Happen to glance at one of the shipment slips we have, and I about wanted to cry.
Going to Toys R Us was a shipment from Square Enix, which my brother took delight in telling me contained figurines for both Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
Found the shipment out on the dock. It’s about 200 boxes.
;_;
Surely they won’t miss one box, right?
Right?!

Also, we have wireless Interwebs now so this is posted from the netbook in question as we wait for updates for antivirus and the like.

Haven't been online since Friday-ish, so updates are in order.
Friday night was a driving adventure of proportions. Went to Columbus in back in one night. It wasn't painful, just crazy tiring. And I got paid, so that's fine. Got to bed at 4AM, had to wake up at 5:30AM... almost needless to say, Saturday's speech tournament was driven on caffeine and will. First judging of the year; it was a novice tournament so it was newbies. Some have definite potential. I'm excited for future tourneys! And a girl on our team placed fourth in Impromptu; awesome. I'm going to be more vocal this year, I think, instead of that strange judge that comes along. XD Halloween party at BEN's was a lot of fun, but a bust on the trick-or-treat front; we got SO much candy but didn't even get one trick-or-treater. T_T Oh, well. I ended up absolutely crashing on their couch, as in, I don't even remember being tired before falling asleep. Got to sleep there, which was nice. Also, Deno! <3 Sunday was hanging out with Noir and Ellis a bit before going to Grandma's for cake for Dad's b-day. After that I went to gaming and played D&D. At least I got to level up, and we found a dragon lair with assloads of loot. Woot.
Today is full of things to do. Dad is going cross-country this week so he's saying I need to pack as much as I can so he can load it. I'm still very unsure about what I need to have, but I'm getting some basic stuff. I can get some book boxes loaded and the towels and randomness. I'm using Bryan's old bedroom furniture but am still iffy on using his bed (queen size) because I want my mattress (full size). I might just have to use his. I still don't know what to do with my giant teddy bear. And I'm dismantling my stereo, which I put up in... junior year of high school? to have surround sound with four speakers. I might bring all four speakers. It also has my kickass TR scene on top, which will have to come down. T_T But I've taken pictures, and they are quite fun so I'll post a few. Back to work. <3 Ja ne.

Hey... Am stuck at home with what I'm reliably told is Swine Flu, much to my dismay. Oh well; I'm through the worst of it, I think, and am coherent enough to wish everyone a very happy holiday, no matter how and for what reason you choose to celebrate it. My Jack-o-lantern's by the door, I've a bowl of candybars and so forth to hand out, the air's full of Fall and I'm about to watch some particularly tasty anime. I'm no longer running fever and have no immediate desire to throw up, so all in all, life is good.
Time to take stock of things... ( Nattering away... )
Win some, lose some, fall back, move forward. I'd like to think that I'm moving forward more than I'm falling back. Let's hope so, huh? ^__^
Happy Holidays to you all.

[] |
Welcome back, one and all, to the third weekly installment of ysabet's and nightengale's serial novel,

New chapters are posted and cross-posted every Friday, and previous chapters always available at the story's dedicated LJ comm, threethieves, where we encourage readers to watch and comment! Kid and Shinichi both love an opportunity to chat with their viewers.
Warnings in this chapter include extreme length (as always) and a bit of blood.
Chapter three of Three Thieves, "chat, prank, lifeline," can be read HERE.
Please enjoy the chapter, and look forward to next week's installment, titled "bed, absence, bicycle." Same thiefy time, same Holmesian channel.
As always, we apologize for crossposting so very much. ♥

I'm pretty far behind on comments now; will get to that soon, I promise.
For now, here's a Naruto video which is like ...one of the most irreverent and the most awesome things ever. The first time I heard this song I went, "What the hell?" ... and then a minute later was singing along with it. >_>
Anyway. IT'S GOOD, OKAY.

I need this episode of Pokémon. I think I've asked for it before, but I can't find it anywhere; it's like a frickin' shiny Celebi or something. DP 092. Here it is at filb dot de. Titled 原点回帰だロケット団!?, or roughly Back to the Start, Team Rocket!?. It features a very ふ~とロケット団 that needs to get back into shape and it looks hilarious. I am offering my undying devotion and possibly my first-born. Although not dubbed, please! Subtitled streaming video, even a link to an IRC channel to get it. Kudasai? I promise, not much more of this, haha.
